Schools often link this to their record for Electrical Inspection as many of the assets will appear in both places. New assets can be added to the inventory and broken or obsolete assets deleted.This document should be stored safely and centrally and can be used as evidence for insurance claims.

Most schools now operate an asset management system of some kind. In simple terms, this is a system where all assets (over a particular value) are recorded and given a barcode, QR code or number. When scanned (most schools now use a smartphone scanner) the code will reveal details about the particular asset.

Three advantages of adding a barcode to an asset:
